4/2/2021 - COVID Operations Update: Vaccine Info, Shorter Tues/Thurs Testing Hours, CoVerified Update

Dear MassArt Community,

Hope all is well with you! I’m writing today with updates on the following topics:

  • COVID-19 is Still Here

  • Vaccine Reminders

  • Testing Site Hours Updated

  • CoVerified Format Change

COVID-19 is Still Here

In our MassArt community and in the surrounding communities, we have seen a dramatic spike in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of March, especially in people ages 0 - 19 and 20 - 29. With the warm weather, longer days and more vaccines coming soon, thankfully we have a lot of reasons to feel positive and hope on the horizon. However, now is the time to stay vigilant and keep up the good work of mask wearing, physical distancing, hand washing, and monitoring for symptoms to make sure we can finish the rest of the semester strong. You should still avoid gatherings with those outside of your household/social bubble and stay home if you are feeling sick.

Vaccine Reminders

  • Even after receiving the vaccine, all community members still need to continue testing at their regular frequency. We will share updated guidelines on testing protocols for those who are fully vaccinated as soon as they’re available.

    • The reason for this is while the vaccines are very effective at preventing hospitalization and death, it is still possible for a fully-vaccinated person to get the virus and pass it on to others.

  • Experiencing symptoms after the shot is a normal and expected response to the vaccine. Some normal symptoms that can be expected are pain or soreness at the injection site, fatigue, or headache. However, any respiratory symptoms (such as sore throat, cough, or shortness of breath) are cause for concern, as the vaccine cannot cause these.

    • If you are having respiratory symptoms, call the COVID hotline or seek other medical help right away.

  • Vaccines work! The more people who get COVID-19 vaccines, the fewer people who will get sick from the virus and pass it to others, which is the best way we can control and end the pandemic.

    • Here’s a great visual by the CDC about how successful the vaccines have been in a small setting:

In our next update:

Information about support from the MassArt COVID Team about getting a vaccine appointment. It’s very exciting that as of April 19, everyone over the age of 16 will be eligible for the vaccine! We hope that many students will get vaccinated before starting their summer break.

We’ve started the month of April with some showers, so hopefully we’ll have some May flowers! Thank you for all you’re doing to stay COVID-safe, please keep up the good work.

Take care,
Madison
