The Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Planning (IREP)
works with the MassArt community to compile and share data in areas such as student outcomes, peer comparisons, and effectiveness measures. Institutional Research also manages the reporting of statistical data to federal, state, and private agencies and provides expertise and oversight of college surveys, planning and assessment resources.

Each year, we coordinate and produce the following external reports:

  • Four submissions for the federal government's Integrated Postsecondary Educational Data System (IPEDS) and are regularly selected for NPSAS, the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study
  • Eight submissions for the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Higher Education Institutional Reporting System (HEIRS)
  • One submission to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection about commuting habits of our community and reducing drive-alone-commuter trips
  • Sixteen external surveys to participate in national and regional benchmarking, peer comparisons, and city/ New England compliance including AICAD, College Board, Princeton Review, Petersons, New England Board of Higher Education, COF, and the City of Boston
  • We produce two external publications annually, the Performance Report and Vital Signs, and update the graduate outcomes publications cyclically (every two-three years)
  • We coordinate national benchmarking surveys administration to the college community, including this spring's National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
  • We submit annual report updates to our institutional program accreditors, including NC-SARA, NECHE and NAAB, and partner with Art Ed. on DESE data needs

We also provide internal support on planning, college-wide internal surveys, survey user support for area instruments and forms, program review instruments and focus groups, ad hoc research requests, five and ten-year accreditation cycle supports and systems, FOIA assistance, and special projects.
