Full-time faculty members, students, and administrators contribute in the decision-making process at the college through participation in the governance process. Governance committees are established in accordance with the MSCA faculty/librarian contract. MSCA governance committees are comprised of administrators assigned by the president, faculty members recommended by the chapter president of the faculty association, and student members recommended by the Student Government Association (SGA).
Written charges to establish new or revised policies, curriculum, and academic reorganization must be addressed to the chairperson of the All University Committee and submitted to the AUC Recording Secretary, Alice Stanne, in the Office of Academic Affairs.
2019-2020 MSCA GOVERNANCE COMMITTEES
The attached document contains a listing of MassArt's MSCA governance committees for the 2019-2020 academic year, including faculty, administrator and student membership.
Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. is an open period when no classes are scheduled. Designated Wednesdays have been reserved for governance, many governance committees meet during this time slot. Please find attached the 2019-2020 Governance Calendar.
One of the 20 Goal's in our strategic plan is We organize to implement our strategic priorities. Many of the actions under this goal revolve around governance and decision making, and include improving committee effectiveness through better support and guidance.
Last spring, we started the practice of annually evaluating committees, which informed a review of the MSCA governance committees over the summer (the data for each committee will be shared with committee chairs in a separate email).
This semester, we will also be developing a committee handbook to help orient members to the work. In the meantime, please find a one-pager that provides some brief information including roles and responsibilities, reporting structure, and advice for your first meeting.
